Large-scale storage systems at ees Europe 2017
With their capacity to uncouple the generation of clean power from consumption and ease the burden on grids, large-scale storage systems will play a central role in the energy supply of the future. This is because they allow flexible coordination of energy supply and demand. From May 31–June 2, 2017 in Munich, ees Europe, Europe’s largest and most visited exhibition for batteries and energy storage systems, offers an overview of the versatile applications for large-scale storage systems.

Finalists announced for the solar industry innovation prize 2017
The Intersolar AWARD is celebrating its 10th anniversary: The award honors pioneering products and solutions in the solar industry for the 10th time running. Once again, attendees submitted impressive innovations in the Photovoltaics and Outstanding Solar Projects categories this year. For the first time, submissions were accepted for the topic of Smart Renewable Energy. The panel of judges has now announced the finalists. The winner of this renowned industry award will be selected from these finalists on May 31, 2017 at Intersolar Europe.
New models for more accurate weather and energy forecasts
Storm or calm, dark clouds or blue skies - wind turbines and photovoltaic systems supply more or less energy to the grid depending on weather conditions. A big challenge for transmission grid operators is having to forecast the amount of supplied energy as accurately as possible in order to maintain a stable grid. Fraunhofer IWES in Kassel, together with the German Meteorological Service (DWD) in Offenbach, has thus developed mathematical models as part of the EWeLiNE project, which enables significantly improved predictions than the traditional procedure. The partners have now completed the BMWi sponsored project which started at the end 2012.
NREL works with small businesses to push innovations
